Title: What a Mess! The Personal and Professional Worlds of Compulsive Hoarding

Presenters: Janet Yeats, MA, LMFT and Jennifer Sampson, MS, LMFT both of The Hoarding Project

It is estimated that between 700,000 and 6 million people in the U.S. hoard. But the issue of hoarding reaches beyond the hoarded household, touching the lives of families, friends, and communities of the people who hoard. Janet Yeats and Jennifer Sampson of The Hoarding Project will help us understand the basics of compulsive hoarding behaviors and how these behaviors impact both the personal and professional lives of individuals and families. We will also be introduced to some of the research results The Hoarding Project is discovering.

The presenters are co-founders of “The Hoarding Project” (www.thehoardingproject.org), an organization created to provide therapeutic, psychoeducational and research resources to people who hoard and their families, mental health

professionals, community and government agencies, and the media. The Hoarding Project provides support groups for family

members of people who hoard in Minneapolis/St. Paul and Tacoma, Washington. Jennifer and Janet are marriage and family therapists with private practices and are doctoral students at the University of Minnesota.
